Windows Vista is a major release of a Windows Operating system. It has taken six years and six billion dollars to build. According to Bill Gates – “it’s the best six billion I have ever spent”. Windows Vista is as big a milestone in the evolution of operating system as Windows 95 was at its time.
* Improved Security through use of Standard User model. Less vulnerable to attacks and easier to manage in an enterprise. While it introduces application compatibility problems, the advantages outweigh the short-term effort to fix the applications.

* Improved User Experience with a more intuitive GUI. With the addition of sidebar and gadgets allows new ways for users to interact with applications.

* Improved Sharing and Collaboration. Peer-Peer networking enables a more powerful ad-hoc collaboration between people. Peer-Peer API’s allows applications to take advantage of this functionality to build more collaborative applications.
* Better mobility experience. Ability to share information between devices of all form factors. Network Projectors functionality is an example of that.

* New network protocol – IPv6. Extends and addresses the shortcomings of the traditional IPv4. Enables new scenarios that were not possible with IPv4. An example is Peer-Peer communication between computers across internet behind firewalls.

* 64-Bit Windows Vista version enables more powerful and high performing applications to be developed for desktops.
